Wall Street Journal|SurveyMonkey poll: streaming television

One in four adults in relationships say they’ve chosen streaming television over sex at least once in the past six months. Other findings from the WSJ|SurveyMonkey poll include:

  • Men and women are equally likely to admit they’ve turned down their partner for sex in favor of watching streaming video (25 and 26 percent, respectively).
  • 36 percent of those age 18-38 say they’ve chosen streaming TV over sex, and 30 percent say their partner has chosen streaming TV over sex. Among those 39 and over, just 16 percent and 19 percent say the same.
  • A confounding variable: These younger generations watch more streaming television, which means they have more opportunities to make this tradeoff. Two-thirds (66 percent) of those age 18-38 say they watch streaming television “nearly every day,” while just 42 percent of older adults say the same.
  • Still, a large majority (86 percent) say they consider the time they spend watching streaming television with their partner to be “quality time” that they spend together.
