First Brick Housing - 'Your Housing Journey'

Who we are:
A democratically run, soon to be member-owned, housing focused project founded for the benefit of LGBTQIA+ people. Our mission is to understand the national picture of LGBTQIA+ housing need and positively respond to this by building homes and community spaces of belonging for those who need it.

Who should complete the survey?
Participation is restricted to those who are aged 18+, identify as LGBTQIA+ and live in the UK. We are looking for all LGBTQIA+ voices, regardless of who you are, your housing situation or where you live in the UK - you might be homeless, living at home, sofa surfing, a Traveller, in student accommodation, flat shares or in temporary accommodation, social housing, private rented or owned housing. The survey ends on 31st March 2024 at 11.58pm. The data will be included in future academic work and publications and will be anonymised.

What this survey is about:
The picture of housing for LGBTQIA+ people is unclear, with little evidenced research of the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and how they find or live in housing. We want to understand your housing journey better, where you are now, what your wants and needs are for housing and what you hope the future of housing for our community may look like.

What will we do with the results?
The research is intended to be included in future academic work and publications. Alongside conducting this large-scale survey we have conducted community engagement sessions and we plan to use the data from the survey and engagement sessions to develop our knowledge and in turn inform the development of housing for LGBTQIA+ people.

With evidence we will have power to effect change and get closer to our vision of building homes and community spaces for our community.

The research is led by Dr Adam Brett (University of Derby) & Lynne Nicholls (First Brick Housing). For more information about the study or to discuss any concerns, please email Lynne: Chair@firstbrickhousing.com
