Action on Hearing Loss Cymru wants to know about your experiences of using adult social services in Wales.

Adult social services usually offer information and advice and provide or fund social care and support specifically for adults who are deaf or hearing loss. Depending on their level of need, this could include:
  • Sensory equipment for the home such as flashing doorbells sensors, amplified telephones or personal listening devices.
  • Communication support such as a Speech-to-text-reporter or British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter.
  • Advice for people who are deaf or have hearing loss and their family members or carers on improving communication.
  • Information on other local services that can help them such as support groups, hearing aid maintenance clinics and lipreading classes.
  • Information on benefits and financial grant schemes such as Access to Work.

Your feedback will help us develop new guidance for local authorities on providing high-quality adult social services for people who are deaf or have hearing loss.

This survey is for people who are deaf or have hearing loss (including people answering the questions on behalf of a family member or someone they care for).  If you’re Deaf and use British Sign Language (BSL) you can also take our BSL survey. To find out more, please visit https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/BSLwalessurvey2019

The survey asks a range of questions about your experiences of using adult social services and the improvements you would like to see. It also asks some questions about your experiences of using other local services such as NHS audiology departments and lipreading classes. The purpose of these questions is to help us get a better understanding of how local services can work better together to improve the overall experience of people who are deaf or have hearing loss who need social care and support. The survey also includes questions about your deafness and hearing loss, age and ethnicity.

The information you provide will be used for research purposes. Your answers are anonymous and you will not be named in any published survey results. By answering each question, you consent to us using this information as described above. You can choose which questions you answer and do not have to answer every question. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Action on Hearing Loss Cymru are also holding focus groups and online focus groups discussions in June to help people who are deaf or have hearing loss share their views on adult social services in Wales. Participants will be given £10 for attending the face-to-face focus groups and travel expenses will be paid. To find out more, please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/focusgroupsignup2019
