Show Racism the Red Card Wales is an anti-racism charity that aims to tackle racism in schools and society. Through sharing your experiences you are helping direct and improve our work to better support you and your pupils. To ensure anonymity and confidentiality, please do not disclose any real pupil, staff or school names.
The definition of racial discrimination is:
"any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, religion, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life"
We want to discover:
- if pupils have misconceptions about or discriminate against certain characteristics
- what topics would be most beneficial for your students to learn about and discuss
- if teachers feel confident and well trained to teach and discuss anti-racism
- if teachers feel confident and well trained to recognise, respond to, report and follow up suspected incidents of racial discrimination
This will allow us to tailor our school and teacher training workshops across Wales to tackle specific issues, stereotypes, misconceptions and racist attitudes.
