The NHS body that funds and plans healthcare in Reading (Berkshire West Clinical Commissioning Group) is running a public engagement exercise to better understand how patients get same-day access to their GP and other healthcare services. This will help us make sure appropriate services are available when they are needed.

The way we provide healthcare changed during Covid because of restrictions needed to keep everyone safe. Some of these changes will continue – for example online consultations give people easier and quicker contact with a GP surgery and can be followed up with a face to face meeting if necessary.

The GP surgery is just one of a wide range of healthcare options available, and we want to know why you choose specific services when you need medical help. By learning more about how people access and use primary care and other healthcare services we can make sure we meet the need for on-the-day health care in the best way possible.

As part of this work, we are looking at the walk-in service at the Reading Walk-In Centre at Broad Street Mall which was temporarily stopped during Covid. We are now considering closing the walk-in element permanently and the answers you give in this survey will be taken into account when we make this decision. (Please note this does not affect the GP surgery also based at the Centre which remains open for registered patients).
