The IWA Climate Smart Utilities community of practice (CoP) is aiming to provide value to those working in utilities, to support those who are the main actors of change towards urban water systems that are climate resilient and carbon neutral.

The CoP will be organised in groups focused on a particular topic. The group on Reducing the carbon footprint of assets will focus its discussion on technical solutions to reduce the carbon footprint from urban water management, with a stronger focus on the wastewater management, where the potential to produce energy and develop circular economy approaches that reduce the carbon footprint are most relevant. It will be a place to discuss questions such as:
- Reducing process emissions form wastewater treatment, transport, and chemicals use;
- Reducing energy use through efficient equipment, better controls, etc.
- Creating urban synergies to recover resources, evolving the mandate from a waste treatment facility to a resource factory,
- Energy production and biosolids management strategies

All participating utilities will be guided to assess their carbon footprint using the ECAM tool, or will be asked to share their own carbon assessment, with the aim to inspire each other, enable discussions based on a comparable data, and develop a shared low-carbon culture.

A tentative agenda for the meeting can be found below:
12:00-12:05 Introduction and Welcome
12:05-12:20 Keynote:

12:20-12:30 Questions to Keynote
Split in break-out rooms
12:30-13:10 Round of introductions:

- Discussion to define “the change we need”: what should this group support utilities achieve?
- Who needs to do what, for this to happen in your utility? [use on-line polling tools]
- What is most needed to support this change in your utility? In other utilities? [use on-line polling tools]
