A partnership between patients, their carers and healthcare professionals

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Can you help us to help patients diagnosed with oesophageal (gullet) or gastric (stomach) cancer?
Are you a UK patient or a carer of someone who has been diagnosed with oesophageal or gastric cancer? Or are you a UK healthcare professional with experience of looking after patients with oesophageal or gastric cancer? Would you like to have your say on which areas of research into oesophageal and gastric cancers should be prioritised in the future?

If so, we need your help. By completing this survey - which should take less than ten minutes - you will help us determine areas that should be prioritised for future research focused on oesophageal and gastric cancer. Specifically, we intend to publish a list of priorities for research into all aspects of the care of oesophageal and gastric cancer; from diagnosis through to treatment and supportive care. By working with patients, their carers and a broad group of healthcare professionals we hope that this will allow future research studies to focus on areas that improve the lives of patients who receive a diagnosis of oesophageal or gastric cancer.

How does it work?
There are two phases to this project, both of which involve online surveys. In this first phase, you are invited to respond to a brief online survey that asks you to highlight areas of oesophageal and gastric cancer care that require further research. This includes every aspect of the care of a patient diagnosed with oesophageal or gastric cancer; from prevention and screening through treatment to supportive and palliative care, as well as living beyond a diagnosis of oesophageal or gastric cancer. We will summarise those areas of research that are put forward to us and you will then get the opportunity to rank these in the second phase of the project. Your rankings will then help to dictate the final list of 'research priorities'.

The phase 1 survey is open for responses until 31st December 2021.

What do I need to do?

Simply complete this short survey - which should take less than ten minutes - to let us know the areas of oesophageal or gastric cancer care that you think should be prioritised for future research? i.e. Tell us what aspects of oesophageal or gastric cancer care you feel could be improved with further research.

Do I have to complete the survey?
Not at all. Your participation is entirely voluntary and you can complete as much or as little as the survey as you wish.

Will you know who I am?
You can provide us with your email address if you would like us to get in contact with you to help prioritise areas of research during phase 2 of this study. We will not link this email address with the answers you provide so we will not know what your responses were to the survey.

Can anyone take part?
Anyone who has been diagnosed with or who cares for someone with oesophageal or gastric cancer can take part, as can healthcare professionals who look after patients with oesophageal or gastric cancer. Responses are not invited from representatives of pharmaceutical companies, commercial providers of healthcare or other industries who financially benefit from healthcare. Regrettably, we do also ask that only UK residents take part in this exercise.
