Mo Khaku

My name is Mo, I am an ST3 at Barnet after completing my core training here at UCH & Barnet. I have had a great time in training so far due in no small part to the benefits of being in the Central London School of Anaesthesia with the great events organised and the supportive, responsive network of people that keep it running.
I would like to be the new intermediate trainee rep because I am keen to be one of those people who make this school better for the trainees by representing our concerns with a view to making real, tangible change quickly and effectively. I would approach this role with drive and passion knowing that although we may not be able to solve the larger problems in the NHS we can make a difference to individuals by ensuring they are heard.
I have experience in organising successful educational courses and mentorship schemes for big groups of doctors and I would be keen to use that experience in this role to continue to deliver high quality events for the trainees of this school.
I would love to be given this opportunity. Thank you for your time.

Being an Anaesthetic Registrar is a hugely demanding role. We must balance the daily rigours of lists, portfolio and exams, and recent events such as the Bawa-Garba case has caused more uncertainty in our practice. As Trainee Representative, I would ensure that our views and interests would be strongly promoted within our training network and to the college. I have strived to improve the wellbeing of hospital staff, having organised the first Death Cafes in the North Central Deanery and also lobbied for better resting facilities during night shifts. I would like to push for improved working conditions, less paperwork and “admin” and more autonomy for trainees to direct their own learning and progress. Being an open and approachable person, I feel I would be a reliable and friendly face to relay concerns and feedback. Ultimately, I envision trainees feeling safe, valued and supported so we can continue to pursue the career we love and treat our patients compassionately.
