Arts Council England has commissioned DC Research to carry out a Scoping Study entitled ‘Mapping of Museum Data in England’.

The scoping study aims to increase Arts Council England’s understanding of the current data collection practice in the museum sector.  The research includes both the mapping of existing data collection, as well as identifying issues with data collection and making recommendations for future data collection and indicators.

The three main aims of the study are to:
  • Understand what data is currently collected.
  • Understand issues and perspectives on the data.
  • Identify examples of good practice.
As part of the scoping study, we are carrying out a survey of museums across England to ensure that the perspectives of individual museums and museums services form an important part of the consultation process.

The deadline for submitting survey responses is Thursday 31st August 2017.  It should take around 15 minutes to complete the survey.

Please note that all individual responses are treated in complete confidence, and all views remain anonymous. All and any results of the survey will only be released in summarised form so that no individual responses can be identified.

If you have any questions or queries regarding the survey, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Stephen Connolly (Director at DC Research -

We look forward to receiving your survey reply and would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to contribute to this important study.
