Welcome to the Big Science Project 2017

Hello!

We are inviting you to take part in the Psychology and Clinical Language Science Big Science Project at the University of Reading. We are aiming to investigate how people of different gender and sexual orientations process faces.

The study has been reviewed by the University Research Ethics Committee and has been given favourable ethical approval; which means that an independent group did not raise any objections to the study on ethical grounds and have permitted the study to proceed.

All the information you provide us with will be assigned an anonymous number and at no point will you be asked to provide your name. You will be required to enter your initials so that we can withdraw your results if you so wish. All data will be kept on password-protected computers at the University of Reading. The data will be used only for research purposes, and in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1998, they will be destroyed 5 years after the completion of the study.

Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary; you may quit the survey and/or request to withdraw your results at any point by contacting the principal researchers (k.l.barfoot@pgr.reading.ac.uk; daniel.lamport@reading.ac.uk). The survey will consist of some initial questions about you (such as your age and sexual orientation) and will then move on to ask you to rate the attractiveness of faces (from 1 - not at all attractive, to 10 - very attractive) as they appear one at a time on your screen. You must answer each question and rate each face as honestly as possible, without interference from others. The survey will take you approximately 10 minutes.
