Cinema memories questionnaire, February - July 2023

About this project
The MAGIC HOURS film heritage project aims to bring together a definitive history of cinemas and places to see films in Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate 1895-now. It focuses on places which have existed in living memory, bringing them alive via the stories of the local people who went to them and worked in them, whether born and bred in the area or more recent arrivals. The Palace Cinema Broadstairs has been funded by the BFI Film Audience Network to run the MAGIC HOURS film heritage project during 2023.
 
Your stories
The project records memories in 4 ways: Paper questionnaire, online questionnaire, by email and in person at drop-in audio recording sessions. Every response to the call for memories will be gathered safely and securely into a publicly available archive by the Palace Cinema. Elements may also be used in MAGIC HOURS events and in a summary of the project online on the Palace Cinema website.
 
At the end of this questionnaire, we ask you to please sign to confirm whether you 1. Agree to have the information you leave here archived by the Palace Cinema, and 2. Agree that the information may be considered for use in MAGIC HOURS events or online activity. In both cases, the memories will be archived and used anonymously.

The intention of the MAGIC HOURS project is to collect, present and archive images, memories and stories of cinemas and films in Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate. After they have been collected, some will be part of events and/or added to the online resource. After that, the images, memories and stories will be archived in the public interest for two reasons: 1. To help preserve and make available this history that audiences might not otherwise be aware of, and 2. To contribute to fostering conversations about the history of local cinemas and cinema-going in Britain.
