Application Form

Please complete the form below fully, including the declaration at the end. Places on LWN's training courses are strictly limited, and are allocated on the basis of the application received. All applications are considered on their merits.

All weekends are open to anyone anywhere in the country, and you do not need to apply only for the one closest to you. Where applicants live is not taken into account when allocating places.

The cost of the weekend (including meals, training and materials) to LWN members is £150, payable in advance. LWN heavily subsidises training for our members, and charges are subject to periodic review. (If you live locally and so not wish to stay overnight the cost is £100, but must still be paid in advance.)

If you are not an LWN member, and do not wish to join, you will be charged the full cost of the weekend. If you are not a member and wish to join, there is a special rate of £175, plus membership subscription.

We welcome applications from all women members of the Labour Party. However, please note that if you have previously attended one of our Candidate residential weekends, or if you are an alumni of the Jo Cox Women in Leadership course, preference will be given to women who have not previously benefited from our training. Please note also that this form is an application, not a booking, and that we reserve the right in all cases to turn applications down at our discretion.

We normally expect women to have been members of the Labour Party for at least 1 year before doing this course; this is because most people need a basic working knowledge of the Party in order to benefit from what we offer. However, in exceptional circumstances we do accept applicants with less than this; if you think that this applies to you please make sure that you explain why in the Personal Statement section at the end of the form.

Demand for LWN courses is very high, and places on them are limited. Please make sure that your application is submitted before the deadline for the weekend you want to attend - deadlines are shown next to the options available, and although we are able to exercise some flexibility about them in some circumstances, this is entirely at our discretion. If you wish to apply after the deadline, please email us at training@lwn.org.uk with reasons for your request.

If you are offered and accept a place, and then fail to attend without reasonable notice and we are unable to offer it to someone on the waiting list or cancel it, we will normally have to invoice you for the full cost of the place (£350). This is because if we are unable to cancel your booking with the venue we will ourselves be charged, and since we are a voluntary organisation and the place is subsidised by our members we would have to pass that cost on. We will make every effort to avoid this happening, however, so if you are awarded a place and cannot attend please make sure to let us know as early as possible.

At the end of the application form you will see a diversity moitoring survey. It would be extremely helpful if you would complete this, so that we can continue to collect and publish diversity data about our trainees as well as take appropriate steps to ensure that our training is open and accessible to all our members and, where relevant, all women members of the Labour Party. We publish figures about the diversity of our training participants on our website here.
