Introduction

8% of survey complete.

Over 1 million homes are bought and sold in the UK each year, but the process of home buying and selling is far from simple or straight forward. Around a quarter of sales fall through, wasting hundreds of millions of pounds. 40% of consumers experience delays. Of those delayed, 3 in 5 experience additional stress and worry, and 2 in 5 incur additional costs.

The government has made a commitment to reform the process of buying and selling homes to make it "cheaper, faster and less stressful". In this survey we want to hear from everyone with a professional interest in this sector, including estate agents, solicitors, surveyors and mortgage lenders. We also welcome responses from members of the public who have recently bought or sold their home. We will use the responses gathered to better inform us of the pitfalls in the process, and potential ways to improve the system.
