Welcome to this survey

This survey is for young people born in Eastern European families, aged 12-18 years, living in the United Kingdom. It is important to find out how young Eastern Europeans feel about their life in the UK, especially as Britain voted to leave the EU in the so-called Brexit Referendum. By completing this survey, you will help us understand young people’s experiences of living in the UK and what issues adults (like politicians or teachers) should think about based on your views.

The survey is split into four sections:

About me
My migration story
My life in the UK
My family and friendships

Everyone who completes the survey and leaves their contact details at the end will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 50 Love2Shop vouchers of £5 each (which can be used at Argos, Boots, Gap, WH Smith and many other shops), one £50 Amazon voucher or a mini-iPad.

About the study

This survey is part of a research project called ‘Here to stay?’, which looks at the lives of young Eastern Europeans. It is being conducted by researchers at the Universities of Strathclyde, Glasgow and Plymouth and you can find out more about it at the project website: www.migrantyouth.org

What does taking part in the survey involve?

The survey has 4 short sections, and should not take more than 25-30 minutes to complete. Most questions have instructions in brackets on how to select your answers. Participation is voluntary and you do not have to answer questions you do not wish to. You can also choose to exit the survey at any point. We may use the information that you have completed up to that point, unless you go back and delete your answers.

Please discuss your participation in the survey with a parent or another adult before taking part.

What will happen to my answers?

We will keep your information confidential, in a password protected electronic database. We do not collect information that identifies you (like your IP or home address). If you enter your contact details for the prize draw, we will not use or share your details with anyone else.

In summer 2017, we will publish a summary of all survey responses on the project website: www.migrantyouth.org. In 2018, we will also write a report for the organisation funding this research, the Economic and Social Research Council, and then publish the results in articles and books.

Anonymised data (with no names) from the survey will be archived at the UK Data Archive in order to make them available to other researchers. Data sharing means that other researchers who want to find out what Eastern European young people think can access the results of the survey, without knowing the names of the peoplewho took part.
