We are in the process of planning our work for the upcoming new financial year. We would appreciate it if you could tell us which areas of our work are important to you as a Devon or Somerset resident or business.

* 2. Devon & Somerset Trading Standards currently operate in the following function areas. Please rate what priority you feel these areas should be given:

Age restricted products (preventing the harm caused by the supply of products such as alcohol and tobacco to under 18 year olds)
Agriculture (ensuring that safe and wholesome feed is made and fed to farm animals - which will often later enter the human food chain)
Animal health and welfare of farm animals (starting from the farm, through to livestock markets and abattoirs)
Animal disease control (preventing and controlling any outbreaks of diseases such as foot and mouth and rabies)
Advice and assistance to businesses (across the whole range of Trading Standards legislation – including running our Buy With Confidence approved trader scheme)
Consumer education (ensuring the public know about their consumer rights, and feel empowered when dealing with businesses - in partnership with Citizens Advice)
Doorstep crime (Preventing often vulnerable people from becoming victims of “rogue” builders and tarmaccers etc – and investigating offences as appropriate)
Fair Trading (including misdescription of goods and services, misleading pricing and fraudulent business practices as well as projects designed to reduce complaints in high priority areas, such as sales of motor vehicles)
Food standards (ensuring food is accurately described and labelled, and does not contain banned additives or ingredients)
Licensing (ensuring petrol stations operate safely and that explosives/fireworks are stored safely)
Product safety (ensuring goods supplied to consumers are safe, from toys to second hand cars to electrical goods)
Scams (supporting and protecting often vulnerable victims, and preventing others from becoming victims. Investigating offences as appropriate)
Weights and measures (protecting consumers from short measure – from testing packing processes in factories, through to checking petrol pumps and shop scales etc)
