1. Introduction

Reading Well Books on Prescription is delivered by The Reading Agency in partnership with the Society of Chief Librarians with funding from Arts Council England and the Wellcome Trust. The scheme is endorsed by leading national health organisations, works within national clinical guidelines and provides book-based support available from public libraries for a variety of health conditions.
 
As part of its successful Reading Well Books on Prescription (RWBOP) programme, The Reading Agency and the Society of Chief Librarians are planning to develop a new scheme for public libraries focusing on the needs of people with long-term conditions (LTCs).
 
The purpose of this consultation is to map out an appropriate framework for constructing a Reading Well Books on Prescription (RWBOP) booklist and delivery framework.The consultation will focus on the underlying policy framework, the evidence base, and the needs of the potential community of users for the scheme. This consultation is aimed primarily at professionals, professional bodies and charities. A parallel consultation process involving people with LTCs, and their families or carers will also be undertaken.
