The Travelwest Bristol Communities team exists to increase walking, cycling and using the bus. Sound interesting? Read on!

The Covid-19 pandemic is hitting our communities hard. There is much struggle, but moreover, strength and resolve on the streets of Bristol. One positive (unintended) outcome of measures to combat the spread of the virus were record levels of walking and cycling, which boosts physical and mental health and helps in our fight against the virus.

In a bid to sustain these high levels of physical activity we are:

1. launching the Active Travel Grants Scheme and
2. promoting our range of Travelwest community offers (e.g. Community Dr Bike sessions)

Further Information on the Community Active Travel Grant Scheme

If you are a community group or organisation and you have an idea about how to mobilise the skills of local people to increase levels of walking and cycling in your area please read this information and fill in the form (funding up to £5,000 is available).

The aim of the scheme is to:

  1. Mobilise the skills and knowledge of people living and working in Bristol

  3. Discover solutions that go beyond the lifetime of the grant and the pandemic.

  3. Funding is for organisations based within Bristol
  4. The scheme must be completed within 12 months of the grant being awarded, and any facilities funded must be available for a period of 3 years from the date of grant approval.
  5. Grants will not be awarded retrospectively.
  6. It is favourable that provision of goods or services should be sought from the West of England locality where possible and when offering best value.
