This budget consultation starts on 12 December 2018 and ends on 9 January 2019. All are welcome to participate and submit their views.

Overview
Eden District Council's draft revenue and capital budgets were agreed by the Executive on 11 December 2018. The draft budgets are based on the existing detailed base budgets, as adjusted for proposed savings and areas of new expenditure (known as growth). The budgets also consider the level of Council Tax increase and how much of our balances (known as reserves) will be needed to support the proposed level of expenditure. The agreed draft budgets are now being consulted upon. This involves asking key stakeholders, such as parish councils, for their views. In addition, our scrutiny function plays a key role in critically reviewing the budget.

What happens next
All consultation responses will be considered by the Executive, on 22 January 2019. The budget report will set out the proposed budget and included consultation responses, be they from the public, community groups, scrutiny and so on.

The agreed proposals will be considered by all councillors at the Council meeting on 14 February 2019. This will determine the agreed budget and the resulting Council Tax that Eden will charge to its residents.

At its meeting on 21 February 2019, our Accounts and Governance Committee will set the total Council Tax that it will collect. This is merely the aggregation of the Council Tax set by ourselves on 14 February 2019 and that notified to us by the County Council, the Police and Crime Commissioner and Parish Councils.
