Introduction

National charity Action on Hearing Loss Scotland has produced this survey to gather information regarding the experiences and views of people who are Deaf or have hearing loss about the accessibility of hospitals, health centres and GP surgeries.

It should take just five minutes to complete this survey.

Under the Equality Act 2010, people have the right to expect reasonable adjustments to be made if they face substantial difficulties accessing NHS services due to their deafness or hearing loss.

For example, some people who are Deaf or have hearing loss may find it difficult or impossible to use the telephone and may need to contact their hospital, health centre or GP in other ways. Some people may need a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter or an Electronic Notetaker in order to follow medical advice being verbally given to them.

The Scottish Government introduced new Health and Social Care Standards in June 2017 which aim to make it easier for people who are Deaf or have hearing loss to access healthcare.

Your feedback will let us know just how accessible hospitals, health centres and GPs surgeries have been across the country during the last 12 months.

If the findings of this research illustrate that there is room for improvement, Action on Hearing Loss Scotland will work to influence decision-makers within NHS health boards and individual healthcare settings to ensure their services are fully accessible for people who are Deaf or have hearing loss.

You can complete this survey anonymously but, if you would like to help us raise awareness about the importance of ensuring that health services are accessible and want to be updated about, or join our Access to Health Services campaign,
