Hatfield has not had a football ground for 38 years. This means local teams cannot progress up the divisions whilst playing in their own town, and causes our better players to drift off and play for rival clubs.

Currently, our 50,000 residents have nowhere in Hatfield to watch our national game in relative comfort in a venue that helps to promote our town.

Local villages have better facilities than us!

We need a flagship ground where the whole community can come together to socialise and enjoy the atmosphere of a decent football match, with a sense of belonging. Not everyone can afford to visit the top Premier League clubs!

But the Town Council have plans to install a 3g artificial plastic pitch, which is not a football ground but, essentially, just a hire facility. Plenty of these are already available in and around Hatfield. There are ongoing health and environmental issues associated with artificial pitches too.

Another large 3g artificial plastic pitch will be available at Onslow school in 2024 for public hire. Why do we need more?

Yet the funding is available for a modest football ground, with a bespoke grass pitch, grandstand, social room, floodlights and more.

Don’t let us waste this gift of an opportunity on another artificial pitch that cannot allow progress, when a proper community ground for multiple teams is the only football facility missing in Hatfield.

We are not held back through a lack of ability, but by a lack of appropriate facilities.
