Accessible routes in the North York Moors National Park

We are continuing our work to make the North York Moors National Park more accessible to all users.

We have limited resources (both cash and staff) and we need to be sure that we invest these resources to deliver the best outcome for as many people as possible with the widest range of abilities. There are a number of areas that we could focus on, and we would like your views about what would make the most difference to you.

Ensuring that a realistic percentage of the public rights of way in the North York Moors is accessible - for instance 0.5% are wheelchair accessible and 5% are accessible to users with limited mobility.

The removal of barriers (steps, stiles etc.) on existing public rights of way network to improve accessibility.

Providing more high quality information about accessible routes of varying grades via our website so that people can easily plan routes.

Waymarking accessible routes.

Ongoing maintenance to enhance our existing easy access routes (accepting that at all times routes are subject to the effects of weather and erosion).

Improving disabled facilities at key points across the National Park – disabled toilets/disabled parking /grants towards Changing Places/helping businesses to become more accessible.
