Think Tank: how is FM becoming a more diverse industry?

Question Title

* 1. In a IWFM webinar this week, there was discussion about how the profile of a ‘typical FM’ has remained largely unchanged since 1999: a 45-year-old white man who fell into the profession.

Dr Toyin Aderiye, principal lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and director of the MBA programme, presented findings from a student’s dissertation in the webinar and also said there has been an increased profile for women working in FM but change has been and continues to be slow.

Part of the problem, said the lecturer, lies in the absence of a defined career path in FM. When asking young children what they want to be, they might offer a “wide range” of choices but never an FM.

So this month, as a part of our Think Tank, we ask why you think the sector lacks diversity and what solid, tangible steps are being taken to change this? How is the recent zeitgeist explosion of Black Lives Matter movement informing you in making any changes?
