Session 1: Wednesday 20 July 9:30am - 12:00
Session 2: Wednesday 27 July 9:30am - 12:00

The sessions will be held online, via Zoom.

Developing your communication and public engagement skills can open up new opportunities to work with different audiences. It can also improve your teaching and communication with other researchers, and give you a new perspective on your maths research.

Mathematicians and maths communicators Ben Sparks and Katie Steckles will lead these interactive maths communication training workshops, covering the skills and techniques needed to communicate maths effectively to different audiences. They will also share their expertise in delivering interactive and engaging sessions in an online format.

These sessions are open to anyone who participates in, or wants to participate in, public engagement and communication activities in maths, and are specifically aimed at those who are new to maths communication.

You’ll have the chance to hear and share advice, discuss the principles behind good engagement, and develop and deliver your own online demonstration, which will receive feedback from the workshop leaders and other attendees. There will be plenty of screen breaks and chances to ask questions.

Participants are expected to attend both sessions and there will be a task to complete between the sessions which will involve a commitment of two or three hours.

*Update 24/6/22: this workshop is now full, but you can sign up to be added to a waiting list. If a space becomes available before 20 July, we will let you know by email.*
