A chance to have your say

We are pleased to present this second draft of the British Canoeing Strategy 2017-2021 for further review and comment. This has been informed through extensive consultation over the past few months. This is the final consultation draft. Comments will be incorporated within the final strategy, which will be presented to the Board for approval in December 2016.

This is a plan for British Canoeing, to make the sport stronger by 2021 than it is in 2017. It will seek to build on existing strengths and address the challenges and opportunities.  It presents clear purpose, vision, key actions and measurable targets. It incorporates action plans for the UK wide functions of British Canoeing as well as a greater number of actions focussed on the English delivery work of British Canoeing. Complementary plans are being developed by the governing bodies in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Having this strategy for the whole sport in place, developed through extensive consultation, will mean that we are all much clearer about our shared ambitions and priorities, roles and responsibilities and how we can work better together to develop our sport.

This strategy is designed to guide the work of all those who make up British Canoeing, to be used by those who wish to engage with it – those that see the benefits and opportunities in working more effectively together including; clubs and centres, regions, national associations, discipline committees, staff and board. It is not intended to instruct or suggest centralised control, but rather present a direction which has been agreed through consultation and which encourages coordinated action.

We do hope that you take part in this final consultation. If you like the emerging strategy, then please do tell us. We recognise that the document is detailed and therefore quite long. If you are able to comment please feel free to be selective and comment on just those areas which interest you most.

We hope that you agree that the strategy is shaping nicely. We look forward to hearing from you in this final stage of its development and to you helping us to make the final plan even better.
