NFU Sainsbury's/Asda Merger Questionnaire

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) are conducting an in-depth investigation into the proposed merger between J Sainsburys Plc and Asda Group Ltd.  As part of this investigation the CMA are focusing their assessment on the following "theories of harm";

- does the merger increase prices,
- does the merger lower the quality of products or services
- does the merger reduce the range of products or services
- does the merger reduce innovation

It is important to remember, the CMA work to promote competition for the benefit of consumers.  Therefore, the focus of the investigation, is to assess to what extent will these "theories of harm" impact consumers.

In order to provide evidence to the CMA the NFU are seeking the views of its membership.

These views will help inform our on-going response to the investigation.  We are interested in hearing your views on how the proposed merger may affect your farm business.

This questionnaire will take a maximum of 5 minutes to complete, through a series of 10 multiple choice questions.

We will not ask you for your personal details and all feedback will be kept anonymous.  However, if you wish to be involved in a case study please leave us your contact details for a member of the team to get in touch.

All responses will need to be received before 31st January 2019
