#FreeFromDiets campaign : CAMPAIGN ACTIONS PHASE 1 Question Title * 1. Schools need income from renting out their spaces to diet clubs. What guidelines could we encourage them to sign up to if they are forced to hire out their hall to host a group? Create a resources document for headteachers (Create a free resources document for headteachers with detailed information about why diet marketing around schools could be dangerous. The leaflet should include red flag words to look out for, clear academic evidence around diet messaging, body image and the link between poor body image and reduced school attendance and performance.) Create alternative posters to counteract diet ads (Create a series of free alternative posters and leaflets to counteract the diet messaging. Recommend that schools who display diet club banners and allow leaflets to be handed out ALSO display the alternative posters and hand out the alternative leaflets.) OK Question Title * 2. Many village halls and Scouts huts double up as venues for diet clubs. What can we do to counteract the diet marketing that appears in these spaces, while we work to get the ASA to change the rules completely? Create a resources document for children's groups that use these spaces (Create a free resources document to distribute to all children’s clubs that use these spaces, including Girl Guiding UK. The leaflet should include simple tips on ways to manage conversations with children around body image and what to say if children ask about diet marketing material in the space.) Create temporary alternative posters(Create a series of temporary alternative posters which club leaders can place over the top of diet marketing in community spaces for the duration of the children's club, to limit children's exposure to the diet club messaging.) OK Question Title * 3. Diet conversation is common among parents and teachers. What could we do to help spread that knowledge that these types of conversations are damaging for kids to hear? How could we work to counteract the diet marketing on school gates and promote positive conversations amongst parents and staff in front of children? Create posters for staff rooms (Create a free poster for schools to display in the staffroom reminding teachers of the safeguarding policy around children. “Keep it in the classroom not the staff room”. Include a link to the #FreeFromDiets website.) Create a series of workshops for teachers (Create a series of workshops for teachers to be delivered by #FreeFromDiets representatives as part of CPD activity in schools. The workshops would focus on how to promote positive body image in children, how to manage conversations around body image and how to create a culture of positivity and counteract diet culture messaging that promotes narrow body ideals.)
