Hart District Council are exploring the introduction of a funded E-Commerce platform

The Council is exploring the possibility of setting up an online website aimed at bringing local traders and customers together. The Welcome Back Fund that the Council has received will mean that it will provide free membership to all businesses and community organisations to be part of the online platform in the district for the first 12 months, enabling businesses to reach a wider pool of customers and extending their online visibility.

The platform will allow shoppers to browse, book and buy from their local businesses at their convenience and its mission isn’t to create more online customers but to create a community of local shoppers who can opt to buy locally in the way they choose.

Similar towns and cities have already started an e-commerce platform – please follow the links below to see the examples:

The aim of this survey is to understand if businesses would be keen to be part of an online platform and to understand the future of the platform from a business' perspective, as the WBF will cover the cost for the first 12 months. However, after this there will have to be some discussion on how to fund the cost. This survey will allow us to understand if there could be an opportunity for local businesses to pay the cost going forward. The cost could range from £3-£5 per week for the upkeep. However, this is subject to conditions and may increase or decrease depending on range of variables.
