Rainbow Pooch Pride in Wales

Consultation

Rainbow Pooch Pride brings the LGBTQ+ community together through their shared love of dogs.

Often for a person identifying as LGBTQ+ having a dog goes far beyond just pet ownership. For some they may have been the first living being that an LGBTQ+ individual ‘came out’ to, or they may form an integral part of an ‘alternate’ family, or they may have simply provided great comfort by offering unconditional love, acceptance and a non-judgmental ear in times of struggle. We believe that, for LGBTQ+ lives, the constant and devoted presence of a dog eases moments of isolation by bringing much comfort, laughter and love. Our activities joyfully acknowledge their silent support service and seek to positively improve the mental and physical well-being of the community.

We have been operating in Birmingham since 2018 and now wish to extend our services across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We'd like your views on that and so kindly ask that you complete this short survey.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to offer your feedback.

You can sign up to our mailing list and find out more about us at: www.rainbowpoochpride.com

1.Are you a Welsh resident and do you identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
2.If you are in employment (or in training for employment), tell us what industry you work in and in what role.
3.Is there any other existing provision for the LGBTQ+ community in Wales that does what Rainbow Pooch Pride does?
4.Do you think Rainbow Pooch in the Park (a monthly social walk and in-person meet up at a local park) would be beneficial to the physical and mental well-being of LGBTQ+ people in Wales?
5.We would like to host Rainbow Pooch in the Park at Cosmeston Lakes in Penarth, a dog friendly and accessible public park, but please tell us which other green spaces (parks/woods/lakes etc) across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan that you'd like us to visit.
6.To support our community during lockdown we ran some virtual Pat & Chats (online support groups with invited guest speakers). Each speaker focused on a different theme; doga (yoga with dogs), mindfulness with dogs, canine massage, reading dog body language, and dog first aid. Do you think these support groups would benefit the physical and mental well-being of LGBTQ+ people in Wales?
7.If we ran our Pat & Chats for LGBTQ+ people in Wales are there any other types of dog-themed speakers that you would like us to invite? Tell us, what do you want to know more about or would find fun?
8.What else could we be doing in Wales that is in line with our mission of bringing the LGBTQ+ community together through their shared love of dogs? What other types of activities do you want to see?
9.Tell us how much would you be willing to pay to attend an event?

In your answers please take into account the differences between the two events:
  • Rainbow Pooch in the Park is a monthly social meet up facilitated by an event organiser
  • Pat & Chat is an ongoing support group, facilitated by a qualified individual, that invites highly skilled speakers to present prepared material

Note - To make events accesible we would always apply a discretionary fund that enables those on a low income to attend.
