WIDESCREEN is a project created by The Dukes, Lancaster, funded by Film Hub North. The project seeks to engage with the local community to help expand our film audience, with a strong focus on making our programming more diverse.

We want to give people from under-represented communities a voice and a chance to tell us what kinds of films and events they would like to see to allow film and the arts to be accessible and enjoyable to all. Under-represented in this context refers to groups such as minority racial groups, sexuality, etc.

We want to celebrate our differences and inform the people of Lancaster about the history and modern stories of diverse community groups to create a culture of stepping out of our comfort zones and learning new things, and are looking for contributors to help us towards this goal.

The Role
We are looking for those with a strong interest in film, inclusivity, and diversity to become contributors for some future events as part of our Widescreen project. Participants will be asked to take part in a panel-style discussion in front of an audience, delving into the themes and stories of diverse and inclusive films with your own thoughts and then be open to answer Q&A questions at the end. These will be paid, freelance positions to participate in one of multiple sessions over the next few months.

Who?
Due to the nature of the project, this opportunity is aimed at those who consider themselves to be from an under-represented community. We would like to hear from anyone who has a passion for film and believes in the importance of diversity. Participants will be limited to one session per person to ensure as many people are able to access this opportunity as possible.

What’s in it for you?
This will be a paid opportunity at approx. £40 per participant per session. You will also have the opportunity to network with The Dukes and the panellists in your session.

When?
The first three sessions will aim to take place in June, subject to participant availability. Future sessions will occur in the next few months. All schedules are subject to change.

NOTE: the first three Widescreen sessions minimum will be virtual over Zoom, so you will need reliable internet access – please get in touch if this is something you would need help with.
