The English-Speaking Union Debate Academy 2019 will run from July 29th to August 3rd inclusive, though DA Coaches will be expected to attend from July 28th. It will be held at Uppingham School, High St W, Uppingham, Oakham LE15.

Responsibilities include: teaching debating to students and general pastoral care for a summer school, as well as contributing one serious social or specialist topic you would be willing to run (for one hour) prepared by yourself.

The rate of pay will be £450. All expenses including travel (up to an £80 maximum), accommodation and food will be provided for by the ESU.

Applicants will be expected to complete a DBS application and ESU safeguarding training with us in line with our timetable, which we will inform you of if your application is successful (applicants that already have a recent DBS with the ESU will not need to complete another).

Applications will close on April 2nd, and candidates will be informed of the results later that week.

We assess applications on the following metrics:

Why do you want to teach at Debate Academy - are your intentions in line with ESU goals.
Experience of debate coaching – esp. if in comparable contexts or with comparable age-groups
Experience of working with young people
Experience working at residential camps for young people
Suggested elective session/serious social demonstrates thought for development of young people
Previous experience delivering ESU programmes (if applicable)

Previous competitive debating success (e.g. the number of tournaments you have successfully competed in the final at) is not a metric we use to assess successful applications (though we do use it if you are successful to decide which class you will be in charge of) - we are interested in your teaching experience as it applies to debating.

All responses will be kept confidentially within the English-Speaking Union, Education department. Select information may be shared with third parties for the sole purpose of facilitating your attendance at Debate Academy -  If hired we may ask for further details on experience or relevant personal information.
