Over a significant period of time the Glasgow Cab Branch of Unite has been campaigning for an extended exemption of at least 2 years to the enforcement  of  the Glasgow Low Emission Zone (Phase 2).

Despite our branch officials continually laying out the sound economic, environmental and public health reasons why we need a delay, Glasgow City Council and certain Councillors appear to be hell-bent on the June 2023 deadline. This has put them at odds with other major council areas who have committed to delaying enforcement until at least mid 2024.

We know that this situation is the greatest threat the trade has faced in a long number of years. The impact of this new legislation coupled with the ongoing effect of the pandemic will place hundreds of livelihoods in jeopardy not only to Hackney drivers but the vast array of communities who rely on them.

We are now petitioning our members as part of a multifaceted campaign. We are calling on you to back our position of:
  1.  GCC to match other local authorities by delaying enforcement until at least 2024.
  2. To work with Unite towards a robust proposal which safe guards our members' interests, protects the public and satisfies environmental concerns.

We have tried to win round the decision makers however this has fallen on deaf ears. It is vital that every driver across Glasgow backs this position.

Play your part in protecting the trade now! Put your name to the petition and forward on to all your colleagues!

All responses will be held by Unite for purposes of this campaign and in accordance with Unite's GDPR policy.
