On behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) and Brighton & Hove Clinical Commissioning (BHCCG)
Exploring the physical and/or social care needs of adults under the age of 70 with physical, sensory or neurological impairments or illness.
What is the needs assessment for?

  • To gain a better understanding of how well the physical and social care needs of adults under 70 are being met in the city and to highlight any gaps in the current provision.
  • To help predict the future care needs of this group of people in the city and influence decisions about what types of care the council provides for them.

Why are we asking you about the care needs and provision of adults locally?

It is known that the city needs different services locally for adults with physical, sensory or neurological impairments and that we have more people in care homes than other areas. To address this, Possability People’s Get Involved Group and the Carers Centre have been commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) and Brighton & Hove Clinical Commissioning Group (BHCCG) to find out about peoples’ views.

We want to hear about what you want and need from services locally and what would enable you to be supported successfully at home, or closer to a home style environment such as supported living. We want to know what is important to you in the care that you receive and how your faith, ethnicity, gender or sexuality or things which matter to you may affect the care that you choose so we will be asking questions about it within the survey.  Please answer as much as you feel able to.  We will treat this information in confidence.

This engagement is specifically looking for the views of people who currently need physical and/or social support or are likely to in the future as their health and well-being are significantly impacted as they are unable to carry out tasks such as:
  • Cooking and feeding themselves
  • Maintaining their personal care
  • Being able to safely use their home
  • Developing and maintaining family and other personal relationships
  • Making use of the community, including public transport, leisure activities or services
If you feel that you are unable to complete the questionnaire on your own, then you can ask a friend or relative to help you; however, it is only your views and experiences that are important here so they must complete the form by recording your exact responses to the questions. You can also ask us to arrange for someone independent to assist you in completing the survey. Please contact us on 01273 20 89 34, or email gig@possabilitypeople.org.uk or text on 07394 56 55 03.

You do not have to take part in this survey and whether you choose to participate or not will not affect your current care. Only give as much detail as you are comfortable with. Please be aware that all responses are handled confidentially and anonymously fed into our report, which will be submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council and Brighton & Hove Clinical Commissioning Group in January 2020 with recommendations collated from your responses.

This should take approximately 10 minutes to complete all 3 parts.

Part 1: Personal characteristics

Part 2: Current and future care

Part 3: Short term care home placements
