Information about this project

What is the purpose of the project?
South East London residents are dying too soon. A major contributing factor is that certain health conditions (like high blood pressure and mental ill health) are not being detected and acted upon soon enough. These high risk and preventable conditions are experienced more by certain communities, including Black African, Black Caribbean and South Asian communities. We're also more likely to be affected if we are living with poverty. For various reasons, including a lack of trust in health services, many of the main affected communities are not fully represented in research to understand these conditions and design services.

The purpose of this project is to pilot a new way of increasing diverse participation in research. Mabadiliko CIC is bringing together and collaborating with trusted community leaders like Two Mindful Bees and Vietnamese Family Partnership (Gia Dinh Viet) to enable and empower us all to become leaders in public health research, ensuring that research can be delivered by and within our communities. We want to make sure that our voices are amplified, and that we are treated fairly in the process. This project is being funded by NHS England, and if this pilot is successful, we will have the opportunity to help normalise this way of doing community-based research.
