1. About the Councillor Commission

De Montfort University Leicester and TheMJ have launched a Councillor Commission to conduct an independent review of the role and work of the councillor and of the contribution made by councillors to the governance of their communities and the country.

The Commission’s aim is to provide policy-makers that take decisions about the structure, function, role and purpose of local government and democracy, with a better understanding of the office of councillor and of the contribution councillors make to their communities. It also aims to further public and policy debate and understanding about local government and local democracy.

The National Association of Local Councils is working with the Councillor Commission on a 'parish stream' looking at the role of England's 80,000 parish and town councillors.

We would be grateful if parish and town councillors could complete this short questionnaire and contribute to the first ever national project of its kind aimed at providing a greater understanding of the role and work of parish and town councillors.

The survey should take up to 15 minutes to complete.

All responses are confidential and anonymous.
