On the 1st March the NHS in South Nottinghamshire introduced some changes to over the counter medicine on prescription for minor illnesses. This included aches and pains, cold sores, coughs and colds, upset stomach, hayfever and indigestion. Instead of being given a prescription which would cost £8.60, people were encouraged to buy i.e. paracetamol over the counter for approximately 20p.

Initial financial results are encouraging. For April and May 2017, £55,312 was saved across the three CCGs.
