The record-keeping job market is increasingly competitive and we want to help employers attract and retain talent. We also want to help diversify career routes. This short survey, aimed at employers, will help us better understand and support the early stage career journey.

The first part of the survey will promote two ARA career development initiatives funded by The National Archives (TNA);

1. Four paid 'pre-apprenticeship' work experience opportunities to support employers offering the Level 7 Archivist and Records Manager apprenticeship (when launched). Please note that as this apprenticeship will only be available in England, only employers based in England may apply.

2. Opportunities for five assistant level records staff to complete one module of an ARA-accredited online Information Studies/Archives and Records Management course.

The second part of the survey asks questions to help us better understand drivers that influence the job market.

Please complete the survey to register your interest in the career development opportunities and to share your recruitment insights.

Thank you.

Anonymised data from this survey will be shared with the Information and Records Management Society (IRMS) and TNA to help better support career routes into the sector. ARA will also publish an article based on the anonymised survey results. Please visit our website for details of our privacy policy.

Question Title

* 1. Apprenticeships

The sector is developing new career routes. We’d like to know how many employers in England have recruited a Level 3 Libraries, Information and Archive services apprentice (LIAS), and how many are planning to offer a Level 7 Archivist and Records Manager apprenticeship (launch date to be confirmed).  Please select one or more of the following options that best represents your current position.

Question Title

* 2. Pre-apprenticeship work experience (England only).

We will support four employers committed to recruiting a Level 7 Archives and Records Manager apprentice by funding four 'pre-apprenticeship' work experience opportunities. A grant of £2000 will be paid to each employer. £1500 will be paid to the candidates as a salary and £500 will be a contribution to the costs incurred by the employer. We are particularly keen to hear from employers who hope to recruit a Level 7 apprentice from communities under-represented in the workforce.

To register your interest please provide a contact email address below. We will contact you directly once the survey has closed. We may ask interested employers for additional information should the level of interested exceed the number of opportunities available. As the apprenticeship launch date has not been confirmed, the funding will remain in place until the employer has confirmed their own apprentice start date.

We will only use your email for confirming and developing the re-apprenticeship work experience opportunities.

Question Title

* 3. We know employers in Ireland, Scotland and Wales are progressing alternative career routes in different ways. We would like to hear from those employers to better understand the approaches taken across all four Nations. Please briefly share your views and experiences here.

Question Title

* 4. Post-graduate module study opportunities (open to all employers in the UK and Republic of Ireland).

We believe that it is important to invest in existing support staff. We are offering an opportunity for five assistant level records staff to study and complete one module of an ARA-accredited Archives and Records Management distance learning course. The candidates and their line managers will be able to select their preferred module. We will pay the course fees direct to the university.

To register your interest please provide a contact email address below. We will contact you directly once the survey has closed. We may ask interested employers for additional information should the level of interested exceed the number of opportunities available.

Please note we will only use your email for confirming and arranging the module studies.
