WIN.

The Healthy Weight Initiative for Nurses (WIN.) is a partnership between C3 Collaborating for Health, the Royal College of Nursing, the Royal College of Nursing Foundation, the Burdett Trust for Nursing, and London South Bank University (LSBU).

The aim of WIN. is to help nurses reach and maintain a healthy weight. This is a sensitive subject with many complicating factors, so we have invested time talking with, and listening to, what nurses – the health experts –have to say about their own self-care and weight management.

So far we have completed a prevalence study of obesity in nurses, an evidence review of workplace interventions to help nurses maintain a healthy weight, a survey of hundreds of nurses, and held focus groups and workshops across the country.

Together with nurses around England, we have designed interventions that nurses thought would be helpful to meet the needs of those who want to reach and maintain a healthy weight. We are now at the exciting testing phase and with your input, we can make a difference for nurses.

What is currently available to test?

NURSING YOU - Interactive decision making tool

Who co-designed it?
Nurses from across England at a workshop at the Royal College of Nursing, London who wanted an online supportive tool.

What is the intervention?
An interactive PDF decision-making tool designed for nurses who are obese, to help them to understand their decisions around unhealthy behaviours, particularly relating to their experiences at work, and find alternative courses of action.

What problem is it trying to solve?
The WIN project has revealed a demand for greater understanding of the challenges of nursing, and how these challenges may make it difficult for nurses to make healthy choices.
