Linwood Mossedge Village Consultation

In 2011, the loss of the Linwood Community Centre and the Carbuncle Award were the catalyst for a group of tenacious women who got together to reclaim our community by forming Linwood Community Development Trust.   Our determination was instrumental to the regeneration of our town following years of neglect and negativity.

We continue to campaign to make Linwood a better place to live through the development of the Linwood Community Action Plan.  To-date, the Trust has organised and set up Linwood in Bloom which has made Linwood a more attractive place to live and restored a sense of civic pride to the area whilst also improving the local environment.  Another success is Roots of Linwood, which not only provides access to affordable, high quality fruit & vegetables, it also generates income for Linwood and provides volunteering opportunities.

The Trust has acquired the land at ‘Mossedge’ to develop much needed community facilities that will be managed and run ‘by the community, for the community’.  The Trust has raised £1.4m in funding so far and will be submitting an application for a further £1m to Big Lottery Scotland in August 2017.  This has been no mean feat but if successful with the Lottery application it will enable our community to have a full sized all-weather football pitch and a community facility that will help to generate additional income to develop Linwood further.  The facility will: enable employment, training and volunteering opportunities; and provide an invaluable resource that will leave a lasting legacy for future generations to come.

The Trust has appointed GVA to get the project underway and we will be holding a community consultation event on Saturday 19th August 2017 at Tweedie Hall, Linwood.  The doors will open at 12.30pm with a presentation starting at 1.00pm.  Sandwiches, cakes and refreshments will be provided and it will be your chance to see the plans for the Mossedge Village in full.

The Trust has been hit with many barriers and disappointments over the past 7 years but we have never given up.  This is the final part of the jigsaw and we hope our resilience will inspire you to come along to show your support.

In the meantime, can you please take a couple of minutes to answer the questions in the leaflet attached and one of our fantastic volunteers will collect your feedback later this week.  To avoid being disturbed, you can leave your feedback form in your letterbox.

Come on everyone, together we can do this!  After all, this is our community, our future and who knows best what the community needs than the community itself.

Many thanks for your continued support!
