Its introduction promises to be one of the biggest introductions in brain injury care and provision of recent times. Dr Judith Gates, Head Safe FootballAfter her husband Bill, a former professional footballer, was diagnosed with probable CTE, Dr Gates made a promise to him that, while this was the reality for their family, she would do all she could to change the future for others involved in the sport. As an organiser of the world’s first header-free football match, Dr Gates is highly innovative in her approach - and uncompromising in her commitment - to improving player safety at all levels of the game. Vicki Gilman, BABICMVicki is well known and highly regarded within the field of neuro-rehab for her work in case management and background in neurophysiotherapy. Also the founder of case management company Social Return, Vicki is a prominent voice in the sector nationally, and her role as chair of BABICM is helping to map out the future for the organisation and case management sector-wide. Martin HibbertAs a survivor of the 2017 Manchester Arena terrorist atrocity, Martin is a passionate campaigner on behalf of fellow spinal cord injury (SCI) survivors. Determined to make society a more fair and accessible place for people with disabilities, Martin is vice-president of the Spinal Injuries Association and a vocal advocate on the need for change. Zen Koh, Fourier IntelligenceHaving realised his desire to change outcomes for patients during his days as an engineering student, Zen’s contribution to the global field of rehab robotics has been transformational. As co-founder of Fourier Intelligence, the robots he and his team create continue to push boundaries, and his promotion of collaboration is helping to unite and advance the sector globally. Annabelle Lofthouse, Breakthrough Case ManagementWith a background in nursing, Annabelle is co-founder of Breakthrough, a case management company committed to shaking up the sector. With a focus on client care, Breakthrough is keen to embrace new innovation as part of its rehab offering, and in supporting clients to achieve outcomes beyond all expectations. Natalie Mackenzie, BISA cognitive rehab therapist, Natalie is founder of BIS Services, which has grown into one of the most recognisable names in brain injury rehab. Dedicated to client outcomes, and to the development of her growing team, Natalie is committed to continuing to push boundaries in terms of knowledge and best practice. Author of the Fatigue Management Journal, she is also founder of online resource The Cognitive Rehab Coach. Professor David MenonWith a distinguished career in neuroscience, Prof Menon, head of the division of anaesthesia at the University of Cambridge, is now leading the TBI-REPORTER project, a research platform that aims to transform the way survivors of traumatic brain injury are diagnosed and treated in the UK, and is set to be hugely significant in the future of brain injury care. Dr Chris Nowinski, Concussion Legacy FoundationA former athlete and now academic and campaigner, Dr Nowinski is credited with revolutionising safety in American football and forcing the powers that be to confront the uncomfortable truth around the risks players were being exposed to. Through the creation of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, he is helping to shine a light on the issue internationally in sport, military, and other settings. Jules Shiel-Boulger and Toria Chan, STEPS Rehabilitation Since opening the specialist rehabilitation centre in 2017, directors, founders and sisters Jules and Toria have built the Sheffield site into one of the key neuro-rehab locations nationally. Clinical director Toria - building on her long career in physiotherapy - and business development director Jules, who has a background in business and healthcare, have combined their expertise to create a state-of-the-art, purpose built facility which helps to transform the lives and potential of survivors after life-changing illness or injury. Harvey Sihota, NeurokinexAfter his own spinal cord injury, Harvey has dedicated himself to changing the future of SCI care and rehabilitation for others. As founder of Neurokinex - which has helped to redefine options around physiotherapy for SCI survivors - and CEO of Spinal Research, Harvey continues to lead the charge for change. Daniel Thomas, ChromaMusic therapist Daniel is founder and managing director of Chroma, which has grown to become the UK’s leading provider of arts therapies. Working nationally covering education, health and social care sectors, Daniel leads a team who deliver art psychotherapy, music therapy, neurologic music therapy and dramatherapy.
