Survey to better understand the use of racial / ethnic terminology describing people (collectively and specifically) in the UK

A number of terms have been used in government and political settings, academia, business and everyday popular culture to refer, collectively and specifically, to people who do not identify with the majority white population in the UK today.

The question of racial / ethnic terminology has re-emerged recently in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, about how to describe different groups of people. For example, some terms are considered too broad and are seen to lump together people of Black African and Asian heritage together. Other terms, it is argued, are too narrow and not inclusive enough of minority populations from Eastern and Central Europe, who have settled in the UK over the last 25 years, and who suffer high levels of social and economic disadvantage and are racialised to the extent that they are subjected to ‘anti-foreigner’ prejudice and abuse.
