Connections: A survey for UK adopters, special guardians and kinship carers.
SG&AT (Special Guardians and Adopters Together), is a peer supported campaigning group for adopters, and special guardians (or Permanence Orders in Scotland).
This is a brief survey for UK special guardians, kinship carers and adopters (it should take approximately 5-15 minutes to complete). We would like to gain knowledge about the impact of a child becoming 'looked after' - going into care initially, or re-entering care from adoption, special guardianship or kinship care - on the child, the child's parents, adoptive parents, and other family members. We would also like to gain knowledge about some of the information that is given to adopters, special guardians and kinship carers about the child and their birth family and the support that is provided after a child had been removed or re-entered care. Finally, we are interested in the perspectives of adopters, special guardians and kinship carers on the risk factor of 'emotional harm' or 'future risk of emotional harm', which may be a reason for removing a child.
We collaborate with other groups and will be contributing to the conference on 'emotional harm' organised by Child Protection Resources on 15th September 2018 in London. We hope this survey will provide some interesting information for discussion and thought for conference delegates. This conference is open to all and places can be booked at http://www.transparencyproject.org.uk/events/. The findings will also be published on the Special Guardians and Adopters Together website.
We seek to protect the identities of all survey respondents. Please do not provide us with information if you feel there is a risk you or your family might be identified. We are collecting data anonymously using Survey Monkey's Anonymous Responses Data Collector.
If there are any particular questions you feel unable or do not want to answer, or they do not apply to you, please simply miss those out. The survey is designed in sections so you only have to complete the sections that apply. The first two sections and last section (on emotional harm), are for all respondents. Please complete the other two sections as applicable to you as a special guardian/kinship carer and/or adopter.
Please let us know if you have any comments about our survey through the contact form on our website:
Please share this survey as widely as possible with adopters, kinship carers and special guardians. The closing date is 8pm on Sunday 19th August 2018
