The Government has announced that from 4th July 2020, communal acts of worship will be allowed in our Catholic Churches. The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has issued guidance for the safe opening of churches for Celebration of Mass.

It will take time to make all appropriate arrangements. Because Fr Vincent cannot come this year, holiday cover for masses will be difficult when mass at Holy Spirit is at 10.30 and at Our Lady of Grace is 11.00. As a result, we expect that public Mass will only be possible towards the end of August or early September. Daily and Sunday Masses will continue to be streamed from the Church of the Holy Spirit.

Social distancing means that numbers attending Mass will be restricted to about 30 people. Because of this, advance booking will be essential and it may be necessary to have a rota. Mass will be short and there will be a one-way system in operation as well as Holy Communion being given standing, at arm’s length and in the hand.

Stewards will be needed to welcome people to church, monitor numbers and to assist with entry, exit and movement for Holy Communion
