The Strategic Equality Plan (SEP) is a statutory requirement on behalf of public sector bodies under the 2010 Equality Act. The Strategic Equality Plan must explain what the health board proposes to do to:

- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.

- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

The scope of the SEP covers the protected characteristics named in the act, which are Age, Disability, Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Religion or Belief, Gender Identity, Marriage or Civil Partnership and Pregnancy or Maternity.
