Transport for the North (TfN) is a unique partnership, established in October 2014, between the 19 Northern Local Transport Authorities, Department for Transport, Network Rail, High Speed 2 Ltd and Highways England. TfN allows the North to speak with a coherent and integrated approach to pan-Northern strategic transport planning and investment in order to achieve a transformed economic geography across economic centres.

TfN is currently developing an integrated, multi-modal Strategic Transport Plan (STP) which will set the long-term sequenced investment priorities as a sub-national transport body.

Campaign for Better Transport is working with Transport for the North on this project, facilitating engagement with environmental and sustainable transport stakeholders.

Last year we asked stakeholder groups what they saw as the opportunities and challenges in the STP. The presentation given by TfN at our workshops can be seen here and the headline feedback from the workshops, surveys and interviews we conducted can be seen here.  The full reports will be published in the Spring.

Now we are seeking your views on the priorities for the Integrated Sustainability Appraisal (ISA) Scoping Report prepared for TfN by Atkins. You can read the Scoping Report, summarised for ease of reading, hereThe full Scoping Report and appendices are available on request

The Scoping report will set the technical framework Transport for the North will use to ensure considerations of economic, social and environmental sustainability issues are integral to the Strategic Transport Plan (STP).

This survey seeks your views on whether the draft Scoping report includes the key sustainability issues affecting the TfN Strategic Transport Plan, if anything is missing, and whether it gives the right framework to assess the Plan.

We welcome your responses by 3 March 2017, to influence the development of the Sustainability Appraisal. The survey will stay open after that date for additional responses, but may not be included in the formal consultation on the Scoping Report beyond that date.
