DOCTORAL AND EARLY CAREER RESEARCH NETWORK

The Association for Art History’s Doctoral and Early Career Researcher Network (DECR) is piloting a new peer mentoring scheme for its members (i.e. doctoral students, and early career researchers (up to 5 years after completion of PhD; but may be longer depending on your circumstances).

The pilot scheme will ‘matchmake’ members in groups of 6-8 researchers. We will aim to allocate groups according to what you want out of the scheme (e.g. if you indicate finding other researchers in your locality as a priority we will aim to place you with such peers; or likewise if your priority is to network with others in your research area), subject to level of interest. Where possible, each group will include individuals at different stages in their doctoral and postdoctoral careers (likewise subject to level of interest).

Each group will run itself and decide its activities. Interaction may be via networking apps, and/or group get togethers. Suggestions and guidelines for running groups will be provided by the DECR board.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 1 November 2019. We will put you in touch with your peer group in December.

This is a pilot scheme, which we will review in spring 2020. In future, we anticipate putting out a call for expressions of interest twice a year. You may submit expressions of interest in multiple calls if you are not happy with your peer group, or your circumstances change (e.g. you relocate and want to meet other researchers in your locality). We are not able to assign new groups throughout the year owing to the limited resources of the volunteer-run DECR board.

At this stage, this scheme is intended for members of the Association for Art History based in the United Kingdom.

By submitting this expression of interest you consent for your email address to be shared with the members of the mentoring group that you are placed in, and with one or more representatives of the DECR board who will allocate the mentoring groups and contact you in early 2020 for feedback on the scheme.
