Star in the Community Nomination Form 2018

Community volunteers are often unsung heroes really making a difference to their community.

Do you know someone who has made a difference to a neighbourhood managed by Poplar HARCA*?

If you know someone like this, why not show them how much you appreciate what they are doing by nominating them for a STAR in the Community Award?

They could be someone who spends time, without pay, doing something that benefits the community or may be an active member of a community group who organises events for fellow residents or supports and helps other individuals in the area.

*Star in the Community nominees can also be from: Clarion, EastendHomes, Gateway HA, One Housing Group, Poplar Harca, Providence Row Housing Association, Spitalfields HA, Swan HA, Tower Hamlets Community Housing or Tower Hamlets Homes.

The Categories
Inspirational Resident Award (one winner per housing provider)

Young People’s Award (one overall winner, aged under 25)

Contribution to Resident Involvement Award (one overall winner)

Bringing People Together Award (one overall winner)

Environmental Award (one overall winner)

Rules of Entry
1.   The deadline for entries is Friday 19 October 2018.
2. All nominations must be submitted online or on the official nomination form which can be found on the Poplar HARCA website.
3.     All nominees must live in a property in Tower Hamlets managed by: Clarion, EastendHomes, Gateway HA, One Housing Group,    Poplar HARCA, Providence Row Housing Association, Spitalfields HA, Swan HA, Tower Hamlets Community Housing or Tower Hamlets Homes.
4.     Residents and resident groups can nominate and be nominated.
5.     There is no limit to the number of nominations that an individual or group can receive or make.
6.     An individual or group may nominate or be nominated for more than one category if appropriate.
7.     There is no age limit (except the ‘Young People’s Award where the entrants must be under 25 years of age).

Awarded to a resident who has, for example:

·       Worked to improve residents’ health
·       Improved employment and skills prospects of others
·       Shown leadership and creativity in the arts
·       Overcame personal obstacles to help others (this could be a disability, language or cultural barrier)
·       Cared for others (giving free care and support)
·       Shown dedication to improve the local area
·       Done more than a neighbour would normally
· Been a good neighbour because...

Young People's Award

Awarded to a young resident, or group of residents (under 25) who have, for example:

· Made a positive difference to their neighbourhood
· Helped to promote the views of young people
· Overcome personal obstacles to achieve success
· Worked to improve relationships between older and younger people
· Shown leadership and creativity in the arts

Contribution to Resident Involvement Award

Awarded to a resident, or group of residents who have, for example:

· Been an advocate
· Encouraged other residents to get involved in their housing provider’s work
· Advocate for other residents
· Shown great commitment to resident involvement
· Gone the extra mile or volunteers regularly with their housing provider
· Worked regularly with their housing provider to help improve services for others

Bringing People Together Award

Awarded to a resident, or group of residents who have, for example:

· Helped bring the local community together
· Encouraged residents to have a sense of pride in the community
· Put the diverse needs of their community at the heart of all they do
· Promoted an initiative to make the community safer or reduced anti-social behaviour
· Worked on a project to benefit residents financially
· Worked to make the area safer by bringing the communities together

Environmental Award

Awarded to a resident, or group of residents who have set up, for example:

· Gardening clubs
· Recycling initiatives
· Bee keeping
· Play areas
· Open spaces
· Similar activities
