FAQs

What are Tier 4 General Adolescent Services?

Tier 4 General Adolescent Services provide care for young people aged 13 to 18 who have a mental health problem that is so serious or puts them at such risk to themselves that they need more support and care than can be provided by a community mental health services.

What's a service specification?
This is a set of requirements and standards for the people responsible for running a service. These key requirements form a contract between NHS England and the providers of a service.

It may be helpful to have the service specification open in another window whilst you complete the survey.

You can click here to open the proposed service specification from NHS England (opens in a new window).

How has it changed?
This specification has changed to make sure that hospital care is a clearer part of a young person’s whole care journey and fits better with the support they receive in their community.

This includes more intensive care being available for young people outside of a hospital setting, better working between hospital and community teams and earlier discharge planning with more involvement from community services.

Why am I being asked?
To ensure the standards and requirements that make up NHS England service specifications are informed by the children, young people, parents and carers who are impacted by these decisions. It will shape the specification before providers bid to run these services.

We will be using these recommendations from young people to ask you some of the questions about the changes in the service specification.
