The South West London SPIN New to Practice Fellowships Application process is now open.

This scheme attracts newly qualified GPs and nurses into permanent salaried employment, with the addition of 2 years' funding to undertake portfolio sessions, and programme director facilitated peer support sessions to create professional development opportunities and aid retention.

Applications are invited from primary care employers in SWL who would like to apply for a funded contribution towards CPD for newly appointed SPIN New to Practice GP and/or nurse fellows.

·        Employers are able to apply for a CPD contribution for GPs and Nurses equivalent to their clinical sessional rate (pro rata) plus on costs.

Payments will be made via the employer.

Roles and responsibilities of employers:

·        Recruits fellow.
·        Pays salary.
·        Ensures protected learning time for fellow to undertake CPD,  within or outside of the practice/PCN.
·        Provides and releases individual for PCN portfolio/rotational working opportunities.
·        Provides a supportive environment to individual and supports participation in the programme.

The SPIN New to Practice Fellowships scheme asks employers to offer 2 sessions a week or more to their GPs and nurses, of which one session carries a significant subsidy as above, making this a very cost effective option for employers. It also allows employers to consider how many sessions a week would best suit their team, and contribute to the work for the team.
