Social media content takedowns: Your stories

ARTICLE 19 is conducting research to gather testimony from those whose content and accounts have been wrongfully taken down by social media platforms. We want to hear from you if you've ever had content removed from social media which you think didn't break the rules, and impacted your freedom of expression. We hope to use this research and case studies to support our campaign and advocacy on the impact of content moderation on the right to freedom of expression.

You can find out more about our work on these issues through our #MissingVoices campaign, or elsewhere on our website. We're calling for social media companies to be more transparent about how and why they remove content, and to enable users to appeal takedowns. We believe more needs to be done to protect freedom of expression in the content moderation process, which too often leaves abusive or threatening content online, but removes the expression of groups who already face discrimination and silencing in our societies.

Anything you share with us in this survey will be kept confidential, and only used in our campaigns and advocacy with your explicit consent. While we can’t promise to take up every case, we want to help raise the voices of people whose ability to speak out and express themselves is being silenced by opaque company practices.

If you have any questions about the survey or project, please email us at research@article19.org with the subject line Content Removal Survey.
