Second Consultation - 25 November – 9 December 2022

Reimagining the Market Square / Greenmarket, Carlisle
Carlisle City Council and Cumbria County Council, supported by consultants Gillespies, are seeking to prepare a vision for Market Square and the Greenmarket. The project aims to deliver a re-imagined public square that puts people first, prioritising pedestrian movement and encouraging residents, workers and visitors to stay longer in the city centre. The new space will support the diversification of the retail core facilitating events and bringing new leisure and cultural uses to the heart of Carlisle.

Carlisle City Centre Regeneration Strategy
This project is part of a wider city centre strategy which includes investment in the Citadel, Caldew Riverside and Carlisle Train Station. Together with the Market Square and the Greenmarket, these projects aim to rejuvenate the city centre and improve the visitor experience.
This funding for this project is provided by the Government’s Future High Streets Fund (FHSF). £2.7m is available to deliver the scheme with the aim to implement works by 2024. This consultation is the first in a series of public engagement events that seek to inform and gain feedback on proposals from the public and local stakeholders. This is your opportunity to have a say in the future of Market Square and the Greenmarket so get involved!
